How to get the best out of the recipes

We’ve divided the recipes into 4 easy reference sections. They are

1. INGREDIENTS & METHOD

These are simple recipes using ‘staples’ and a few other ingredients.

There are only a few steps to get dinner onto the table within 20-30 minutes.

2. TIPS FOR MUM
Why it’s good for Mum
A quick ready reckoner for you to decide whether it will suit you and your child(ren).

Why it’s good for kids
Fast food restaurants understand how to make food fun so they keep them coming back for more. We apply the same principles and explain the ‘kid appeal’ for each recipe. The big difference is our recipes are healthy and nutritious!

Busy Mums
Short cuts to make the dinner preparation easier.

Tips
Namely, were to buy ingredients + things we learnt when testing the meals on kids.

Hiding vegetables
Vegetables can be ‘disguised’ so you are more likely to get your children to eat them. We show you how.

3. MAKING IT FUN
Kids find it hard to sit still and see dinner differently to adults. Therefore our approach to dinner is from a kids perspective.

Funny names
This is the start of the fun by engaging their imagination in kooky names like Swamp Monster or Slippery Suckers.

Creating a Scene
Time to think what appeals to a child and present dinner in a fun way. Kids eat with their eyes and respond well to colour and design. Remember you don’t have to be Van Gogh of the food world, kids have great imaginations. Broccoli may never look like a tree to you but to a kid it can! We show you how this photo’s and instructions.

Game Time
We suggest a game to play with dinner. Kids love to play games and game are a great way to create happy meal experiences. Games can be as simple as playing aeroplanes to everyone putting the same food on their fork. Games are great to use when mum is in a rush as they require no preparation or effort. As an added bonus games can help cultivate social and verbal skills and involve the whole family.

Hands on
One of the best ways to making food fun is involving kids in the cooking of dinner. Food isn't as scary if they have helped prepare it so they are much more enthusiastic about eating dinner. All it takes is a little extra time from you. We list tasks for your child to help with dinner.

4. ADULT FRIENDLY
2nd sitting
We only expect you to cook one evening meal. If the family can’t eat together, then we suggest how to serve it later for the parents.
  Spice it up
Parents need the option of jazzing up their evening meal while still being able to eat with the children. Spice it up is what you do to make it adult friendly.
