Medically Tailored Meals for diabetes: an Australian-first research trial

About the study

We know that nutritious food is vital for good health, and more healthcare providers are testing healthy food or meal prescription programs to support improved health and wellbeing. This is why researchers at The George Institute are looking for volunteers for their groundbreaking study, and you could help!

The study will examine the effects of a ‘Medically Tailored Meals’ (MTM) program in Australia and participants will be randomly allocated to either Group A or B for 6 months:

Group A Group B

Participants receive 20 ready meals home delivered per fortnight, and 3 appointments with a dietitian

Participants continue eating their normal diet and will be compensated for their time with up to $300 of grocery vouchers

Compensation will only be provided to eligible participants who complete the study.

Who is eligible to participate?

  • Adults aged 18 and older,
  • People who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for at least 12 months and who have struggled to regularly get and eat foods that support health and wellbeing,
  • Those planning to stay in the Greater Sydney area over the next 7 months, AND
  • Those able to attend the research phone appointments during trial participation (approximately 7 months)

Why participate?

Participants who complete the study:

  • May experience improvements in blood sugar levels or other type 2 diabetes symptoms.
  • Will be contributing valuable information that may benefit those with type 2 diabetes in the future
  • Will be helping to advance medical research.
